Having lived 5 years in London, frequenting France, Scotland, and Portugal—I’m lucky enough to have had many such moments.
But the most spectacular for me happened in the little hilltop villages of the Luberon, in the South of France. We had just crested a hill and were met with miles and miles of soft purple fields; the lavender had just bloomed.
It was a sight I’d seen on many Provencal postcards—but never in person.
My breath caught, and I watched, transfixed, as the breeze ruffled the thousands of flowers, swaying in a single wave.
This moment was what travel was all about. Seeking out the extraordinary, and embracing the landscapes that fill you with awe.
